That's Maria (muh-rye-uh)
2
Our granddaughters had reached the point where they handled
car seats well, so we decided to replace the Honda Pilot with a Mustang
convertible. I had taken the Pilot into the Honda dealership to have the
HomeLink system repaired and they had a bright red 2020 Mustang GT Premium
convertible. I drove it and liked it, but we had not come to agreement on
out-the-door cost.
I poked around and found that the Cadillac dealership in
Houston had the same model in a dark gray color with a lower price and fewer
miles. I spoke to a salesman there and, after a little negotiating, we came to a
price that was acceptable. Mel and I drove the Pilot down on Saturday, September
14, 2024 and we stopped at our son Tom's apartment for lunch. Then the three of
us drove two cars over to the dealership. I looked over their Mustang and drove
it and we closed the deal. We left the car in their employee parking lot so it
would be protected overnight.
On Sunday we drove back to the dealership and Mel
and I headed for home in the Mustang. It had just 8,360 miles on it when we left
Houston. It was a smooth drive from Houston to
Frisco, with a stop to top off the tank in Conroe just to be on the safe side.
We got home having averaged 30.3 MPG on regular gas - much better than I had
expected. So here are some photos of Maria 2. If you are wondering about the
name, take a look at the page for the Maria (2014 Mustang). It is explained
there.

Although I have put the car seats in the back seat of the Mustang, I have not
had the girls in them yet. That will likely happen this Sunday when we go to
church.
I had installed a USB mini stick with music on it, I was getting random tracks.
I found that I had to push the Shuffle button to turn that on and press it again
to turn it off and then was getting music by albums. The car has an Easy Entry
and Exit that moves the driver's seat all the way back. It took some searching,
but I found how to turn off that feature so it would not crush my
granddaughter's legs. There seems to be about three different ways to make such
changes, and they don't all have all the features and there is some duplication.
Still, I am really enjoying this Mustang.
I have just learned that the car was originally sold by Chaparral Ford in
Devine, TX for $53,615 on May 26, 2020. I also learned that there are three outstanding recalls
that I will have dealt with by my local Ford dealer.
On Sunday we put the top down and stopped to pick up our granddaughters. We got
them into their car seats and they thought this was really cool!
I had been driving Maria 2 pretty conservatively to avoid drawing attention to
myself, so I was in for a big surprise. We went out after lunch to do a little
grocery shopping. I turned out of our community onto the three lane road going
north and stayed in the right hand lane as I was approaching Main St. It looked
as if the right lane was going to be closed down up ahead, so when the light
turned green I hit it so that I could move over into the next lane ahead of the
other traffic. Good grief, is this car quick. She shot across that intersection
like a rocket ship.
